Hugo Favila is attaining a mechanical engineering degree at Columbia University. He is from El Paso, Texas and is a first-generation low-income college student. As part of the Columbia Space Initiative, he is a Co-Lead for its RASC-AL team, a mechanical engineer and the Citizen Science Coordinator for its NASA SPOCS team that will be sending a payload to the ISS, and is the organization’s Outreach Director. He has participated in the NASA L’SPACE Mission Concept Academy and the NASA Proposal Writing and Evaluation Experience. In addition, he has been a student mentor for Eye to Eye National, a STEM Education Fellow for ELiTE, and a high school student mentor for Columbia’s MyNYC.
